We’re never not thankful here at Comedy Bing! Bong! and this week is no exception as Never Not Funny’s Jimmy Pardo returns along with first timer/singer-songwriter Bill Callahan! Jimmy gives us the deets on the 5th Annual Pardcast-a-thon and Bill performs songs from his latest album “Dream River” before Scott’s ex-stepfather Bob Ducca drops by to tell us about his recent life changing experience. Don’t forget to cast your votes for the Best of 2013 CBB episode over at blog.earwolf.com!
Jimmy and Bill compete over whose album came out earlier in the year. Scott asks them what their favorite albums are (Bill: Mickey Newbury's "Looks Like Rain," Jimmy: The O'Jays' "Love Train"). Scott declares that every song should have sound effects in them and again brings up his favorite song, Prince's "Batdance." They discuss the origin of the Pardcast-a-thon and how Jimmy likes all donations to come in at 69¢ over the dollar. Scott ponders why songs have titles, and he maintains that albums should not only have no titles but also no cover art.
Bob Ducca arrives, transformed by his experiences with ayahuasca. He draped in dalmatian fur and hid in a shipment of soccer balls being shipped to Peru, where he had a dramatic psychedelic episode and saw his own death. He announces that he is finally over his relationship with Gloria, Scott's mother and his ex-wife. A big thing that has helped him get over Gloria is "yokie," which is what he calls karaoke, and the song "Wrecking Ball" by Miley Cyrus in particular (which he then sings).
Bob reveals his new business venture, selling the fungus that grows beneath his neck brace as "Neck Truffles." He asks Jimmy if Smile Train would be able to help him with all of his dental issues, including orthodontal confusion, uvular bumps, peanut butter septum, etc.
Bill Callahan performs these songs in-studio:
- "The Sing"
- "Small Plane"
- "Ride My Arrow."
